Model Number: BDP-BX2 I had seen the quality of bluray in costco with the transformer movie
and wanted one since. The only thing is that I had purchased one from
bluray magnavox and Transformer Bluray to test it out and it just didnt
look the same. I returned it and purchased this Sony bluray and there it was the clarity i had seen and wanted.
We have friday family movie night and tonight were inviting the
neighbors. I strongly recommend you purchase this one. My television
has 1080p and we have surround sound."
"Great performance for what it is designed to do Outstanding quality. This blu-ray player produces a top quality picture.
Setup was painless. However, if you like to add all devices to your
cable box remote control, I could not get it to recognize this player.
I tried all the Sony codes in the manual and then tried the learn
process and the cable remote could not operate this player. Not a deal
breaker but an annoyance. This player has BD Live which allows for firmware updates over your network but has to be hard wired. It has no wireless capabilty. It does not
have some of the newer network features such as Net Flix, You-Tube,
Pandora, etc. But with BD Live, maybe these capabilities will be added
in future firmware updates. My unit arrived with .006 firmware version.
Web site review indicated that version .007 was the latest firmware
available. I called Sony for the .007 firmward disc and they sent it
free of charge and it arrived in 4 days. Great service from Sony. There is a Quick Start option that I selected so I find this player to be very fast from disc insert to start of movie.
Bottom line: If you are looking for a top quality Blu-Ray player, you
can't go wrong with this one. And the firmware can be updated as newer
versions come available. If you want the latest internet features, they
are not offered with this model. I would highly recommend this player." "Beats out Panasonic! I compared this player with the Panasonic sold by costco for a similar
price, side by side, on my 52 inch Sony 1080P LCD tv. I only had DVD's
at the time and so I tested out it's upconverting ability. I used Harry
Potter and the Order of the Pheonix. The Panasonic's picture was WORSE
than I got using my old DVD player. There was a lot of blurring and
mottling of the picture. However, when I put it in the Sony, the picture was hands down better. It doesn't take a critical eye to see the difference.
I have since played blu-rays and have been very pleased with the clarity and sound this player puts out.
Maybe it doesn't have all the bells and whistles some of the other
players have, but I figured I wouldn't use those much anyway. If you
are looking for a solid blu-ray player with good upconverting ability

I've had this Blu Ray player for about 6 months, and it has performed very well with every form of mediaI have tried, including of course Blu Ray Disc (BD), DVDs, and CD.
It plays BD on my HD TV flawlessly. Sometimes, when I insert a BD, it
take a few seconds to buffer the input before it starts playing, but
that is only occasionally, and only at startup, never during the film.
It upgrades DVDs surprisingly well, especially the ones I have
that are Remasters, such as my Bond/007 collection on DVD, and X-Files
on DVD. The resolution in those cases is so good that I don't see a
need to ever replace them with Blu Ray versions.
And, of course, it plays CDs with excellent audio quality through my home theatre system.
I'm glad I got this particular system, because it has served as a sort of all-in-one player that does everything so well. Scware"
